Google Pixel 3A, 3A XL release

March 13, 2019

Google Pixel fans are happy to note the release of the new Google Pixel 3A and 3A XL this month. These newest smartphone models from Google are jam packed with new features, including Night Sight for pictures, Portrait Mode, unlimited online storage through Google Photos, an all-day battery, and a state-of-the art security module called Titan M.

Best of all, the starting price for this beauty is $400, a reasonable cost for the features in comparison to many other models on the market.

The Google Pixel 3A and 3A XL come in black, white and purple and became available for preorder on May 7. They feature the Pixel operating system, the most popular smartphone OS in the world.

In a recent review in the New York Times, Brian Chen admits that he thinks the Pixel 3A series is a better phone for most people than the Pixel 3, Google’s last innovation with some additional features but twice the price tag.

“In fact, the Pixel 3A is so satisfying that at this point, I might hesitate to recommend its $800 counterpart, the Pixel 3, to people other than gear heads and tech enthusiasts,” says Chen.

Chen’s review points out that all the high-end camera features in the Pixel 3 are also available in the 3A models, including Night Sight, which uses artificial intelligence technology to allow users to take pictures in low light without a flash that still look good. Another camera feature includes portrait setting, which puts the main object in the photo in sharp focus while gently blurring the background.

Best of all, these Google phones are now available on all the major U.S. carriers, including Verizon, T-Mobile, U.S Cellular and Sprint, plus unlocked versions for international use. This is a change: previously, Google’s phones were only available for Verizon users.

The Pixel 3A and 3A XL models do lack a couple features available in higher priced smartphones, including water resistance, wireless charging and a wide-angle lens on the front-facing camera.

The Google Pixel 3A has a 5.6 inch screen and retails for around $400. The Google Pixel 3A XL has a six-inch screen and sells for about $480.
