Huawei Sells 67 Million Phones in Q3

October 14, 2019

The numbers are in: despite issues with the U.S. market, Huawei managed to sell 67 million phones in the third quarter of 2019.

The biggest issue was an inability to partner with Google for Huawei’s new line of smartphones, the Mate 30. However, the phone sold well within China, with 1 million units sold its first week and surpassing the 3 million mark by the end of the second week.

The lack of Google apps on the phones have made the Mate 30 a hard sell for users in most parts of the world, however China is rallying behind the Chinese company.

In May, the Trump Administration prohibited U.S. companies from doing business with Huawei without special permission. Although ultimately general use sanctions have been postponed until December, the insecurity has left many companies scrambling and questioning whether continuing a partnership is worthwhile.

Huawei has several other smartphones in the pipeline for release, however it’s likely that it will hold off on a global release of their new models until matters are settled with within the U.S.
