Smartphone Market Trends for Q4 2020

October 11, 2020

No one will deny that this year has been unusual. However, there are many ways that the world continues to turn. In the smartphone industry, this includes new smartphone models and changes within the industry itself. Here are some of the smartphone market trends for Q4 2020 that retailers should be aware of.

Samsung Regains Market Share

Samsung announced a huge rebound in sales in the third quarter of 2020, after losing its place as the top seller of smartphones to Huawei in the second quarter. Although their full report won’t be released until the beginning of November, Samsung announced a 60 percent increase in sales during the third quarter. Analysts think this is likely due to several factors. Huawei’s top market is China, which was the first to recover from the coronavirus pandemic, leading to record sales within its home country. Even as Huawei enjoys market domination within China, however, it is facing increased sanctions in the United States, leading to a drop in sales for the smartphone producer there.

Qualcomm Reportedly Leaps into the Smartphone Arena for Itself

Qualcomm, maker of the top smartphone processors used by major global brands, may be launching a smartphone of its own. The new phones are reportedly being built by Asus and will use the Snapdragon 865 chip, already in use by some of the top smartphones on the market. The phone is rumored to be built for gaming, sharing many similarities with the Asus ROG smartphone.
